While most Camino groups are made up of high school service-learning programs, we can also provide international retreats for any type of cohort, including families, friends, and colleagues. We can build trips ranging between 5 and 8 days. Generally, shorter trips remain at our El Faro campus, whereas longer programs include a stay at another retreat center or hotel/AirBnB on the coast.
While at our El Faro campus, most of our groups sponsor and assist with a meaningful service project. This might involve building or repairing a home for a family, upgrading a section of aqueduct, or improving a section of road. We'll hire a local foreman. On the other hand, we can also build a retreat experience that isn't centered on a specific service project; rather, the focus might be on building relationships, learning Spanish, or even a different aim (like a business strategy retreat). Perhaps your family or group of friends just needs a special place and time to disconnect to reconnect.
No matter what type of group and what the aim, our local staff provide amazing meals. Packed days will be unpacked each night in guided group reflections with your cohort and leaders, with plenty of time to build relationships with the host community. You'll find that the Camino campus lends itself to slowing down, deepening relationships, gaining clarity, and focusing on what matters most.
Groups that head to the coast have the option to assist with a small ministry that serves the largely undocumented Haitian population. This eye-opening encounter with the realities of extreme global poverty invites travelers to deep reflection. Our discussions will examine the root causes of these conditions, and consider how the experience can affect our mentality and practices back home.
Pricing is based on trip length, number of participants, and desired programming (e.g., whether or not to include a visit to the coast and the scope of charitable project to be undertaken). Typically, the minimum viable size for a group is 6 participants. The per-person costs vary considerably based on these factors, usually falling somewhere between $1,500 - $2,800 plus airfare.
